Possible Assistance for Lowell's Family

 Classmates,

I've located some sources for assistance with developmentally delayed adult family members in Louisiana. First, I located the Louisiana chapter of ARC which included a SPAS Fact sheet at this link: SPAS-Fact-Sheet.pdf (thearcla.org)
At the bottom of the sheet is the attached contact info.

On the Louisiana Department of Health website is a section for the developmentally delayed. An adult focus is near the bottom of this page: Services & Programs | La Dept. of Health

Also on the LA Dept of Health website is a list of intermediate care facilities across the state that starts on this page: HSS - Intermediate Care for Dev. Disabled | La Dept. of Health Page one seems to be centered on Covington so be sure to look at the pages that follow.

We usually use Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS) for our blind and multi-disabled students who are about to transition out of school. I know they evaluate for placement for varied disabilities, of adults, however, they are slow to respond and have quite an employee turnover rate. One has to be persistent but when they do start working on your behalf, they really DO start working on your behalf. If they cannot offer services, they should be able to direct you to appropriate services. There are a few offices across the city. The phone number is (225) 295-8900
